Finding rusty old junk is fun! Nevertheless, I have found that no matter how much "stuff" I find and collect, only God can fully satisfy my heart. Matthew 6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

"A Christmas Story" Love

I'm a collector and junker of all things nostalgic and vintage and Christmas, so of course I love the movie, "A Christmas Story," as well as the book it was based upon, In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash. Sometimes I refer to the movie in my head when I am trying to date a particular find, I think of whether or not I would see it somewhere in the movie which was set in 1947. I think I got an idea of what Christmases of long ago looked like from watching the movie so much as a teenager. A few years ago I began to decorate a small part of the house with anything that is "Ralphie related."

In the past I did a Ralphie tree, but this year I tried out a wreath and I love it. Everyone who has seen it has laughed, because its so ridiculous with all those leg lamp lights sticking out everywhere!

I used all of my Ralphie ornaments and I wired the collectible figures on the wreath as well. I used some vintage-looking garland and bulbs and icicles like they had on their tree, as well as big colored bulbs. I stuck a family portrait of The Parker family in the center.

There was nowhere to really hang the wreath and I had already made it before I considered that fact. So when I saw an old salvage door for $10, I bought it with the specific purpose of hanging this wreath and it looks great in a bare corner of our family room.

"Its a major award, I won it!"
"But...what is it???"

"This...is...A LAMP!"
Randy lay there like a slug. It was his only defense.

"Ah, my house. Good ol' Cleveland Street. How could I ever forget it?"

"What I want for Christmas is an Official Red Ryder Carbine Action 200 Shot Range Model Air Rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing which tells time."
"Okay Black Bart. Now you get yours!"
"What's that? Over there, behind the desk?"

"Hey Kids! Its Little Orphan Annie time, brought to you by rich, chocolatey Ovaltine!"
Be sure to drink your Ovaltine.

Have a Parker family, all-American, old-fashioned Christmas. Just don't shoot your eye out.

  5. I have to show this post to my husband. He loves that movie. I do too, but not 1/2 as much as he does. Very cute wreath. I'm cracking up over the rifle behind the desk.

You had asked about the snowman bottle that i made on my blog and I can't find your email, so I'll answer you here: It's that air dry clay that they sell at Hobby Lobby. They also sell it in smaller packs for kids to make stuff with if you don't want to buy a whole tub of it. The mouth and eyes are carpet tacks and the nose is a toothpick that I cut off. I put those in the head and let it dry for 24 hours and then put glitter on it.

  8. That is SO funny!!! I, too, love that movie. I referenced it at work the other day and one of my coworkers had never heard of it. WHAT?! I passed up a RR gun this summer, but am happy to find them on ebay because I found a ( you are going to be SO jealous ) vintage pink bunny costume!!! My son-in-law says "no way" is Mack going to wear it, but I think my daughter can convince hime otherwise. It should fit him when he is 3.
This post has started my day off with a good laugh! I love your Christmas Story corner!
